This duo have been around for a while now, and their new EP “The War Room” looks set to gain them some serious attention. Blending samples from old public information films with various electronic sounds over irresistible indie rock grooves, PSB are a two-man testament to the importance of infectiousness and invention in today’s music scene. This is from said EP which is released later this month. Enjoy!
Musically speaking this week has been a very repetitive week for me, the same three tracks have been playing out of my office countless times. I would like to attribute all the blame to Ms. Orla Gartland. I do have plenty of sound reasoning though; the girl got some serious skills. She’s the kind of artist you only need to hear one track to know she’s got the talent. There are a lot of singer-song writer-artists out there, as far as I can see there are few who can portray an energy and charisma in their songs to the extent that Orla can.
I came across Orla after using the having a peep at an up-and-coming Joe Bloggers gig starring the wonderful Kate McGill. Her and Orla collaborated with other artists (Lauren Aquilina, Ebony Day and Ally Rhodes.) to give us a beautifully sung version of Coldplay’sCharlie Brown.
They are all looking for followers on the Twitter and Likes on Facebook. If you would like to check them out I’ve put a few links below (You can also check out there version of Charlie Brown!) But be sure to give Orla Gartland’s Handlebars & Steps a listen, it shall not disappoint! If you like what you hear be sure to check out her pages on Facebook and Twitter because she dishes out plenty of free tracks.
Today is a good day, I believe I have discovered a pair of brand new songs for my spring soundtrack. Apparently ‘Giana Factory’ are not in fact a new band on the scene and they have been around since 2009/10 and have managed to creep under my proverbial radar until now. They certainly deserve admiration along with Warpaint and Friends as one of the new spangly girl bands on the scene. Move over Girls Aloud.
This unique form of pop come electro minimalism just works to astounding extents it will have you listening over and over. They have a new album out this spring and if these tracks are anything to go by it certainly won’t disappoint. Minimalist fans should have an ear for this, so James Blake fans be ready for a treat, and of course any fans of Friends will greatly enjoy this.
Disclosure are a duo that played at our first Joe Bloggers night in London.
They are 2 brothers from Croydon, who make downbeat 2-step / future garage. They have recently supporting SBTRKT playing live on his UK tour, been asked to remix everyone from Emile Sande to Jessie Ware and been playlisted at BBC Radio 1.
I don’t have much to say about this song and that’s not because I don’t like it, in fact it’s the complete opposite, it is really just a very lovely song perfect for any mood, and features some beautiful vocals from Sinead Harnett.
Disclosure’s new EP ‘The Face’ is due out on on June 4th and ‘Boiling’ is out now via iTunes.
The first listen to Virgil and the Accelerators doesn’t conjure the image of three teenagers in a pub, and while they’re swiftly moving up through the ranks of the UK circuit, that’s near enough what they are. This makes their individual talents and the noise they make together all the more impressive, and their live show is a force for stalwarts of the scene to reckon with. You might say that Virgil’s accent betrays the claim on their Twitter page that they’re from Birmingham, or that the guitar playing is a little masturbatory at times – but these would be comments born out of jealousy. They are fantastic live, so see them if you can. Until then enjoy this mammoth ballad, which features on their 2011 album “The Radium”.
Yellow ostrich are one of my favourite new discoveries of 2012, to my dismay they are not UK based, is Los Angeles too far to travel for a gig? The drummer – a Mr. Michael Tapper is formerly of the brilliant Fools Gold and before that We Are Scientists, so they certainly have some heritage amongst the ranks.
Their latest single; Marathon Runner reaches the high standards that you immediately bestow upon them. Check it out!
Firstly I shall apologise for my prolonged absence, I am sure many of you have been worried sick about me! I have 3 new bands to make up for it though.
My first introduction is dedicated to the fantastic ‘Shields’ from Newcastle with their new release: ‘All I Know’. Fans of the Mystery Jets: perk up your ears as you will enjoy this one.
This is Shield’s second release, check out their first ‘White Knuckle Tight Grip’:
And of course here is their latest release; All I Know:
My first Joe Bloggers post & many more to come! Just thought I’d do a little introductory piece to say “HELLO ALL!”
I’m Rosie, and I very much hope you enjoy the music that I post!
So, to get things started… anyone seen the new Internet Explorer advert? Well, this is how I discovered this wonderful artist!
A quick Google search later and boom!, my love for ‘Alex Clare’ began.
The particular track used in the advert is called ‘Too close’, posted below.
His beautiful, soulful voice is what really jumps out at you, backed with fantastic bass-driven dubstep!
Not usually a fan of dubstep? Give this a try, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. This isn’t just ‘noise’, it’s jazz, soul, blues,… simply ‘kept up to date’. The old & new brought together in one! Fantastic, enjoy!
This one is a little tricky to describe, but I’m not alone in my blind fumble for adjectives. The band’s own efforts to describe their music range from “sonic opulence” to “hypnagogic pop” via “space age bachelor pad music”. It’s certainly sonic. Space age? Possibly. Hypnagogic? Who knows? Either way it’s good fun, drawing on 80s synth pop and funk and echoing more recent music in Hot Chip’s mould. This track is from their recent EP of the same name. Check out their website for upcoming gigs.
Here’s one of my favourite accidental discoveries ever. Peter Bruntnell was the support for the Richmond Fontaine duo in Bath last week, and it was an incredible evening of music from start to finish. Bruntnell has been on the scene for a good while now but has managed to pass under most people’s radar, which while unjust makes the discovery even more exciting. His most recent album is called “Ringo Woz Ere” but you’ll struggle to find any to listen to online. So to tide you over here’s Domestico from his 2008 album “Peter and the Murder of Crows”.
